Education Above All Foundation and the General Directorate of Endowments Celebrates Graduating Students and Welcome new Recipients of the Qatar Scholarship Programme

EAA’s Qatar Scholarship Programme and Awqaf bolster access to higher education in Qatar

Doha, 25 April 2022 – The Education Above All Foundation (EAA) and The General Directorate of Endowments (Awqaf) hosted a celebratory iftar at the Diplomatic Club on Sunday to award outstanding students for their academic performance, welcome new recipients, and honour graduates of the Qatar Scholarship programme in Qatar. The ceremony was attended by His Excellency Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Dr. Salem Al-Naemi, President of University of Doha for Science and Technology, Dr. Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al Thani, Director of General Department of Endowments, Dr. Francisco Marmolejo, Higher Education President at Qatar Foundation, Dr. Ivan Ninov, Executive Dean of Al Rayyan International University College. The event drew 170 attendees, including students and their families and local partner Universities.

The Qatar Scholarship Programme is a one of a kind scholarship programme that provides young adults between 17 and 25 years-old who have spent most of their formative years in Qatar with access to quality higher education at Doha-based universities, including Qatar University, Qatar Foundation Universities, Al Rayan University, Doha University for Science and Technology, and the University of Calgary in Qatar. The programme is implemented by EAA and made possible with the support of The Endowment Account for Scientific and Cultural Development in the General Department of Endowments.

Attending the Iftar, Sheikh Dr. Khalid Al Thani, Director General at Awqaf remarked: “We are delighted to be part of this great partnership that aims to provide Qatari-based youth from around the world with quality higher education through The Endowment Account for Scientific and Cultural Development. This is in line with the Qatar 2030 vision that aims to help the youth to develop the life skills and knowledge they need in order to actively participate in the development of society”.

During the event, ten graduating expatriate students received their graduation certificates, and 32 high achievers were celebrated for their outstanding academic performance. EAA and its partners welcomed a new cohort of 28 scholarship recipients for the 2022-2023 academic year.

“EAA continues to work relentlessly to make a world where all youth, particularly the most underserved, have access to quality higher education that will support them in building a prosperous future. We thank Awqaf for their support in making this possible and look forward to the next phase where we aim to provide even more students in Qatar with the opportunity to access quality higher education”, said Talal Al Hothal, Programme Director at EAA.

Celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, EAA is dedicated to ensuring that some of the world’s most disadvantaged groups have access to education. Al Fakhoora programme alone has to date, secured higher education scholarships for 125 beneficiaries.
