Bedaya introduces 10-week “Jewelry Design” program

In collaboration with VCU arts and to develop Entrepreneurship Talent 

Doha, Qatar – 24 Nov 2019:   Bedaya Center for Entrepreneurship and Career Development (Bedaya Center), the joint initiative by Qatar Development Bank and Silatech, has introduced a new program revolving around Entrepreneurship Talent Development. Conducted in collaboration with VCUarts, the program is about Jewelry design that commenced on 15 November 2019 and will run till the 29 February 2020. 

The 10-week program is being held at the Virginia Commonwealth University – Arts and design Faculty in Qatar. The three-hour course on every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, aims at developing entrepreneurial skills for the attendees and teach them how to turn their ideas into existing businesses.  
During the program, participants will be introduced to several themes that will sharpen their talents such as  jewelry history internationally and in the Middle East, introducing industry leaders, as well as learning to turn their inspiration into paper through an introduction to free drawing, the importance of multiple drawings and how national culture affects their local designs, the use of Adobe Illustrator.  In addition, participants will have an introduction to silver and gold and the nature of metal surfaces, the nature of the production chain, the principles of marketing and branding, the use of social media, identify target markets, and the creation of their own brand.

Furthermore, participants will be able to learn how to cut using laser, use triple printing, designing and manufacturing of international jewelry, the best ways to start the project through the opening of a specialized store, how to participate in exhibitions and ways to sell designs instead of manufactured pieces. 
From the fifth to the ninth week of the program, participants will be able to experience the production by turning their paper drawings into pieces of art. On the last week, entrepreneurs will learn about the importance of displaying their jewelry in stores or online.

On this occasion, Ruqaya Al Sada, Entrepreneurship Advisor at Bedaya Center said, “At Bedaya Center, we look forward to offering the best programs that will elevate entrepreneurs' thinking and motivate them to start their own businesses by equipping them with the best foundations and honing their skills and professional abilities to improve their future prospects. This program aims to develop entrepreneurial skills to inspire participants in the field of Jewelry design and enable them to translate their ideas into real projects.”

On her part, Aysha Al Kooheji, Program Manager for Community & Continuing Education at VCU arts Qatar said:” The Community and Continuing Education team are glad to collaborate with Bedaya to offer the 'Entrepreneurship Talent Development: Jewelry design ' program. We aim to offer an educational platform for emerging entrepreneurs in the creative economy.' 

Expressing her excitement about the upcoming program, Amina K. Malik Founder and Creative Director of House of AKM and instructor of the Jewelry Design course said, “We look forward to working with Bedaya in collaboration with VCUArts Qatar to teach, develop and train aspiring Jewelry designers. Qatar has become a design hub for the region, and we couldn't be more excited to be a part of this wonderful initiative'.
